Scott J. Wakefield graduated from Art Center College of Design in 2003. Since
that time, Scott has worked as a freelance illustrator, serving national
children’s magazines and major publishers such as Spider Magazine, Highlights, Scholastic,
and McGraw Hill.
Versatile with nearly any medium, Scott’s body of work includes
images done in traditional media such as oil paint, ink, pastels, and acrylic, as
well as the digital platforms of photoshop and illustrator.
Scott’s
work demonstrates engaging characters, effective storytelling, and a
strong sense of life and
light. At its best, “the marks are fresh and confident. An abstract
collection of honest brushstrokes on one hand, and the seamless
depiction of a convincing reality on the other.”
“I enjoy the
creative process and there is great value in it for me personally, but
my purpose is to engage my viewer and inspire their imagination. It is
very important for me that others understand my work and enjoy it. I can
do that with picture books.
The stories are simple, sometimes profound. They captivate my
imagination and engage my mind. “
Scott recently completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at Utah State University and currently teaches at the Art Institute of Salt Lake City. He lives with his family in River Heights, Utah.
